Connect Interactive Brokers

Start with paper (demo) mode to practice risk-free with real market data. Switch to live when you're ready.

Paper mode: no real money

Paper mode connects to Interactive Brokers's official demo environment. You get virtual funds and real market prices. No real money is involved. It's the best way to learn the agent before going live.

IBKR paper trading uses the same Client Portal Gateway as live. You log in with the paper trading option selected. No API keys are used: authentication is session-based through the gateway.

    Download the IBKR Client Portal Gateway

    Download the Client Portal API Gateway from interactivebrokers.com.

    Start the gateway

    Unzip the download and run the start script. The gateway starts on port 5000 by default.

    Log in with the paper trading option

    Open a browser and go to localhost:5000. Select the paper trading login option and enter your IBKR credentials.

    Get your session token

    After authenticating, the gateway provides a session token. Copy it.

    Find your paper account ID

    Your IBKR paper account ID looks like DU1234567. It appears in Trader Workstation or on your IBKR account page.

    Paste into Alle-Quant

    In Alle-Quant, open the exchange panel, select Interactive Brokers, choose the Paper tab. Paste the session token as API Key and your paper account ID as Passphrase. Click Connect.
